Extractions: When a tooth is not in good enough condition to be saved, an extraction may be necessary. The patient would need to come in for an image to determine the prognosis, and see if it is something to be extracted in office, or if the patient would be better fit to see an oral surgeon.

DSRP: Deep cleaning, also known as a Scaling and Root Plaining, is treatment for those with Gum Disease. When you have gum disease, or periodontal disease, the gums pull away from the teeth, which over time may make the teeth become loose. It is important to treat this in the early stages, to prevent tooth loss. Once the dentist determines you need DSRP to get your teeth and gums healthy again, you will need to schedule 2-4 appointments. Ideally these should be scheduled no more than 10-14 days apart. Once you arrive for your appointment, a hygienist or dentist will numb the area they are starting with, and use their scale to remove the plaque, or tartar, from below the gumline. They will likely also use a measuring tool to see how deep the pockets on the gumline are. This is used to help track progress to get your gums healthy again. Once DSRP is completed, it is typically recommended you return every 3-4 months for regular cleanings to help prevent buildup of plaque again.
